Don’t get “burned” by common scams involving chimney cleaning or repair.
If you’re contacted by a company offering chimney cleaning for a ridiculously low price, be careful! Once they’re in your home, they may scare you into thinking that your chimney has structural damage, needs a new liner or is leaking carbon monoxide.
In fact, carbon monoxide leakage in chimneys is quite rare. There are instruments that show carbon monoxide leakage -- if you hear this claim, make sure they prove it to you.
So, protect yourself by not falling for too-good-to-be-true prices, and not succumbing to pressure to act fast. Shop around and get several bids. Ask for – and check – references.
And, always check out any contractor with the Better Business Bureau to prevent your hard earned dollars from going up in smoke.
