The Better Business Bureau of Metro New York has recently learned of a secret shopper scam run by “A C T Research Group,” claiming to be part of a campaign under a contract with the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau. BBB and FTC have NO connection with this campaign.

Nowadays, it is hard for consumers to go shopping without being bombarded with products advertised as “environmentally safe,” “degradable” and “ozone friendly,” but how does a consumer have confidence in a product or service advertising itself as “green?”

Effective today, March 1, amendments to the Federal Trade Commission’s Business Opportunity Rule go into effect. The changes implement new disclosures that work-at-home businesses must provide to ensure consumers have the appropriate information they need when considering a work-at-home program.

Better Business Bureau warns consumers that scammers are making phony phone calls claiming to represent the National Do Not Call Registry. According to DoNotCall.gov, “The calls claim to provide an opportunity to sign up for the Registry. These calls are not coming from the Registry or the Federal Trade Commission, and you should not respond to these calls.

BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas has issued an F rating to San Antonio-based Abili-Staff Ltd., due to a pending FTC government action against the company as well as unanswered consumer disputes received by BBB. Abili-Staff offers work-at-home opportunities to consumers nationwide through an online database consumers pay membership fees to access.
